Pago Report 2007: E-Commerce is coming of age

The trends: higher percentage of women consumers, balanced consumer behaviour and a significant decrease in non-payment risk

Cologne, 5 June 2007 – Pago, one of the leading acquirers and payment service providers has just published its latest Pago Report, the sixth successive edition – the only E-commerce study, worldwide, which is not based on survey polls but on real-life purchase transactions.

As last year, the study is entitled “Trends in Consumer and Payment Behaviour in selected Ecommerce Industry Sectors”. Trends and developments in consumer purchase and payment behaviour, in non-payment risk and in individual E-commerce sectors have been examined in about 60 different analyses. Seven expert essays by well-known experts from credit card organisations, from the Deutsche Bank, from the European Parliament and from the University of Karlsruhe round off the Pago Report 2007. With this report Pago has once again provided all participants in European E-commerce with a valuable decision-making tool to be used when modifying online offerings and payment services to meet the needs of the market.

All the results are based on the analysis of a representative selection of around 30 million real-life purchase transactions processed through the Pago platform between October 2005 and September 2006. Because Pago is a credit card acquirer for Visa and MasterCard for the European license area, the transactions all originate from online shops in Germany, the UK and the rest of Europe. The report also analyses the E-commerce sectors retailing, gambling, services and travel and entertainment in more detail.
