Eliminating errors right from the start

The success of any transaction processes depends foremost on the accuracy of the data entered. If your customer makes mistakes entering bank code and account number, this will increase the transaction costs.

Pago Account Check checks the bank details entered for plausibility.

Note: Pago Account Check applies only to German bank data!

Overview:

Bank code and account number
Plausibility check

Bank code and account number

German Bank identifier codes are allocated centrally. Changes in bank codes as well as new and discontinued bank codes are published by the authorities in the "Amtsblatt der Bundesbank". Pago has up-to-date access to the German bank code database.

Account numbers are generated using special generation processes. Most German banks use a non-public generation key offered by the German “Bundesbank”. However, a few banks in Germany use their own or modified generation keys, which in turn are deposited at the "Bundesbank".

Plausibility check

Pago Account Check is a two-stage process:

In the first stage the existence of the bank code entered is verified. This is done by cross-checking the bank identifier code with an up-to-date bank code database. If the submitted code is found to be invalid (i.e.: not allocated), the entire bank data is rejected as "not valid".
In the second stage, the given account number is cross-checked against the bank code. This involves cross-checking the account number with the bank’s account number generation key, whereby the plausibility of the number is verified (number system, sub-account key and check digit). If this check is positive the bank data is reported as “valid”, otherwise it is rejected as “not valid”.

Evaluation:

The term "account data valid" indicates that an account with the combination of bank code and account number could exist at the said bank.
Pago Account Check does not guarantee the actual existence of a given account.
Pago Account Check does not make any statement about the creditworthiness of the account holder.
